Cafe Au Lait is a B sized (Medium) Informal Decorative dahlia that is Pink. It was introduced in 1968 by a hybridizer in Holland named Bruidegom. It wins in its class (of course it is the only dahlia in its class), and it is extremely popular with designers for weddings and the like. Having said that I will comment that its not my favorite. We imported this dahlia some thirty years ago. At the time we were the only Stateside growers providing it. At the time, I liked it in spite of heavy criticism from my Dahlia Society friends. It is somewhat unpredictable and it tends to be crotchy (short stems, even when dis-budded), blooms late (June weddings not so much), and the form and color is all over the map. Nonetheless it is a very popular dahlia.
